You Gotta Know Volebeats

I discovered Volebeats a few years ago after doing a needle drop on the band on eMusic.
Built in Detroit in the late 1980′s as an acoustic duo, Volebeats is an ongoing project of guitarists/singers Matthew Smith and Jeff Oakes. From street corner singing through a half-dozen plus records and about as many personnel changes, they’re probably the best country rock band in America that no one outside the Motor City knows about.
These is from their 2000 album, Mosquito Spiral:
Volebeats – Radio Flyer
Volebeats – Not Here Not Gone
Volebeats – I Tried To Tell You

Took me a while to get around to these guys, but I’m glad you posted the songs. I’m a huge alt-country fan, in addition to punk, blues, reggae, etc. of course. But Jayhawks, Son Volt, Bottle Rockets, Freakwater, are among my favorite bands. This is the first time I heard of them, but I gotta put the Volebeats up there. Really digging on them.
