Why Your Willie Is Blue

Blue Mountain was born 15 years ago at the peak of the alt.country movement, the brainchild of husband and wife team Cory Hudson and Laurie Staritt. They put out 5 albums at the workman-like pace of an album ever other year and called it quits. After an eight-year hiatus, the band has been reborn behind a compilation of their “greatest hit” called Omnibus and a collection of new songs called Midnight In Mississippi.

A mix of grungy gritty guitar rockers and soft, melodic acoustic pieces, Midnight In Mississippi is a good reason for Blue Mountain to hang around another 10 years. You can look at their website but it seems to have been stagnant since they broke camp in 2001. The better place to get up to date with them is their MySpace Page, which also has current tour dates.

Blue Mountain – Skinny Dipping

Phosphorescent is Matthew Houck and To Willie, his most recent album, is a slightly woozy late-night barroom ode to the only Willie who, at this point, makes a difference to American culture (save for the other Willie…that is, Mays).

Phosphorescent – It’s Not Supposed to Be That Way
