Wailing Whalers & Eagles of 2000 Metals

Apparently Axl Rose hated Eagles of Death Metal enough that he kicked them off a Guns N’ Roses tour. Given my distaste for Guns N’ Roses, in general, and anything Axl Rose thinks, says or does, in particular, I immediate gave them a listen.
I thought they were pretty likeable. Not enough to buy their full album, but cool enough to strip naked and dance to this one:

The Whispertown 2000 are the first band signed to Gillian Welch’s label so I knew before I listened I would like their record, Swim. Singer Morgan Nadler is the consummate Beverly Hillbilly: one part back porch country girl, one part sophisticated Sunset Strip stalker.
Amusingly, eMusic headlined this one as being from Songs And Ballads from the Wailing Trade when, in fact, it’s Songs and Ballads from the Whaling Trade. That’s a little different. I’m not a huge fan of this sort of music, but my ten-year old walked in while I was doing a needle drop and liked it.

I guess I should know about Maggie Bell, but I don’t. Great version of Blue Suede Shoes, though.

I ADORE the Eagles of Death Metal! I highly recommend their album Peace Love Death Metal. Goofy and highly danceable–even with your clothes on.
