It’s time to give some propers to the wonderful Friends of Fusion 45 who have so kindly offered their support with links (and other good vibes). I’ve been too long gone when it comes to visiting them (what with making a living getting in the way of my fun).

Any Major Dude has a new address and a new look (which I quite like) but he’s remained the same excellent writer, his pointed commentary on pop music the standard by which we are many measured. His most recent post, Not Feeling Guilty offers a nice pop mix you need to copy to a CD for a car-ride singalong. We’re on the same page when it comes to the Weepies (and Tift Merritt, too, for that matter), as you’ll see in his post on The Best Albums of 2008.

New to the FOF45 cadre of colleagues is Cheap Gas, who just launched back in October 2008. You’ll find a mix of the interesting and the bizarre, a combination of Cheap’s own mixes and props to others’ mixes and posts. I learned about a band called The Belmont Playboys through CG, though I had to jump over to Rock Is Dead to get the link. No worries there: Rock Is Dead a very cool place for music that “will scare your neighbors”.

Another new friend is Ramone 666 whose blog, For The Sake of The Song is all about music he “cares about”. A true brother under the skin, you can find everything from Van Dyke Parks to Chuck Berry, all discussed intimately.

Groove Cookie left me a comment awhile back and from there we exchanged links. I’ve found some cool stuff there (like Friendly Foes, which remind me a little of a Boston band from the late 70’s called the Rings). Her profile says “…eclectic doesn’t even begin to describe it, so let’s not get all weird and jump to conclusions…”.

I like Kill Ugly Radio because it covers all these genres that are completely out of my league. Things like Industrial, Drone, Death-Folk and Low-Bro. What the hell is Low-Bro? I don’t know, that’s why I go there. (Apparently, Tom Waits is low-bro. That makes sense. I guess I’m smarter than I thought).

Last on the list of recently added friends, is the treasure trove of music you’ll find at Radio.Jazz.Club. Much of what is posted leads to other sites but it’s a great place to start when looking for something new (and has a nice radio function dead center on the first page). if you’re at all on the jazz tip, bookmark it.

Thanks to all for their links, their support and for letting me into the community.

Namaste,
Music Junkie

  1. First of all; thanks for your comment on my blog Music Junky, much appreciated.

    About my blogging history;
It started all with an invitation from some guys I met on a P2P program to post something on the Lost-In-Tyme blog.
That was December 2006, as a newbie I started slow with an occasional post but soon that became more and more.
But some of the music I wanted to post couldn’t be placed there so I started my first blog called Boppeslag [http://boppeslag.blogspot.com/]
Over there you’ll find surf instros and surf related albums.
And again I needed another place to post genres I like since Boppeslag is dedicated to surf and instrumental rock only so I created my second blog Frisian’s Other Favorites
Yeah I know the second blog name isn’t that original but I was hasty to create that one :-)
BTW Boppeslag is a sports term from a local Frisian sport (Keatsen) and is something like a home run.
About my posts; I try to be original but said that there is all ready allot of stuff posted but every now and then I succeed (I hope)

    Greetings from the Netherlands
    Frisian

PS. Your added to my Blogrolls

  2. Thank you for the mention and the kind words. I see you posted Jojo, which I’m including in my second Not Feeling Guilty Mix. Great minds, and all that.
