I used to work with a guy named Ed Brace.
Early in his career, he worked as an editor of medical dictionaries and encyclopedias about physics. He lived in London at the time, hung out at Ronnie Scott’s, got dissed by Stan Getz and played chess with Dizzy Gillespie in his off hours.
How he ended up a radio newsman in a small upstate New York town, I’ll never know. But, he was one of those fascinating characters you never forget (and you miss whenever you think of him).
He used to sing When Sunny Gets Blue as he waddled (literally) around the radio station. He used to say, “no one gets out of this life alive”. He died in his 50’s of leukemia.
