A bass player friend of mine called and asked if I wanted to get together with him and a guitarist for a jam session. Sure! So he agreed to do it at my studio (since that’s where the drums are), we set a date and a time (and, of course, the bass player didn’t show up!).

But the guitarist and I got on well. So we’ve decided to quit our day jobs and make a living as rock stars, covering ‘old guy rock’ (and maybe a few new tunes that sound old).

Here’s our opening set list:

Aerosmith – Mama Kin

Did it in junior high. It can only get worse.

The Rolling Stones – Honky Tonk Women

Ditto.

CCR – Suzie Q.

I like medleys, especially when they combine originals or songs people don’t know with overplayed ‘gems’ like this. I think Suzie Q will go great with Let It Rock by Chatham County Line.

Cream – Sunshine of Your Love

Not one of my faves but the guitarist likes it. Already I’m compromising my art.

Springsteen – Pink Cadillac

Let’s mix this with Voodoo Cadillac.

The Rolling Stones – Shake Your Hips

And this one will mix well with La Grange (‘ah haw haw haw’)

Southern Culture On The Skids – Voodoo Cadillac
