Props And Missives No. 24 – Some Great Stuff Today
ALLEN TOUSSAINT on AM Then FM:
Another great post from Jeff at AM Then FM, this time on the inimitable Allen Toussaint.
I wasn’t aware he wrote “A Certain Girl,” covered by the equally one-of-a-kind, Warren Zevon. I did know he wrote “Sneakin’ Sally Through The Alley,” covered in a most unusual way by Robert Palmer. That’s what’s so cool about Toussaint: his music has been covered by such a diverse range of artists — from Richard Hell to Bruce Willis and back again.
I saw Toussaint at a Gavin radio convention in Atlanta back in 1995; he was on stage for about 20 minutes and simply captivated everyone in the room.

Plus a great post on R.E.M. which inspired me to write the post you see below.
CHET BAKER on Aquarium Drunkard:
Wish I’d thought of that…plus, a fun story about Waylon Jennings.
As usual, I only have time for the “A” on my blogroll.
Have fun today!
PS: I’m also going to promote my own post from a few days ago on Steve Gadd – I’m pretty proud of how that one came out…
