I first heard the Chesterfield Kings back when I was doing rock and roll radio in Syracuse in the early 80’s. The station played Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd and Van Halen but the all-night DJ girl, who I got to date for a few months, turned me onto all the cool bands in the clubs.

She was one part Ramones, one part the Who and looked like a cross between Joan Jett and Liza Minelli. She had a voice to die for, liked to drink ice cold beer and dance up a storm. She introduced me to the C-Kings and we had some good times to their music.

The only thing better than the memory of them, c. 1980, is the fact that they’re still recording and still keeping the garage rock fires burning. Listen to this then drop in on eMusic and pick up their new album, Psychedelic Sunrise.

  1. You dj’d, music junkie ? I’m jealous. Johnny Thunders did a stint with the Chesterfield Kings, I seem to remember.
