- Souther Hillman Furay Band - Border Town (Souther Hilllman Furay, Asylum, 1974)
- Profile #1 on Sal’s Boutique gets another spin.
- R. L. Burnside - Too Many Ups (R.L. Burnside, Fat Possum, 2006)
- Thanks to Moby, blues and scratching sound OK to us. Buy from the label (eliminate the middle man) at Fat Possum.
- Big Country - Poorahman (The Crossing, Phonogram, 1983)
- The e-Bow’s greatest supporters save this one ’til the end of the record (and for good reason). Takes singer too long to get to the “Hah!” part.
- A Hawk and A Hawksaw (The Way The Wind Blows, The Leaf Label, 2006)
- Most interesting band to come out of Albuquerque since, well, ever gets jiggy with it.
- Richard Harris - Watermark (The Yard Goes On Forever, ABC/Dunhill, 1967)
- Music to have a nubile blond girl lay her head in your lap by. How manly! I love Jimmy Webb but, sweet Jesus, this is so awful it’s funny. Somehow it works in this set, though.
- Drive-By Truckers - Gravity’s Gone (A Blessing And A Curse, 2006)
- They sound like a combination of the Stones and Broken Homes. Who cares? Go buy their record on their site. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
- Looking Glass - Don’t It Make You Feel Good (The Looking Glass, Epic, 1972)
- From those nice boys who brought you “Brandy, You’re A fine Girl”. If I had a cover band, I’d play this one.
- Suzanne Vega - 99.9F (99.9F, A and M, 1992)
- Every show needs at least one Top 40 song for balance. We’ve dug her ever since she had coffee with our sibling before a show in Boston.
- Dionne Warwick - I Smiled Yesterday (Dionne, Scepter, 1967)
- A Columbia Record Club “Special Issue” you won’t find anywhere but here. A future feature on Sal’s Boutique.
- A.A.B.B. - Pick Up The Pieces One By One (Courtesy of Funky 16 Corners)
- Go here to learn who was behind this record.
- Buck Owens - Round Hole Guitar (America’s Most Wanted Band, Capital, 1967)
- Just to prove you can mix these two together (and it almost worked)!
- Elvin Bishop - Have A Good Time (Rock My Soul, Epic, 1972)
- Have played it a lot over the past year; needed to play it again.
- Up, Bustle and Out - Tinto Tintero (Mexican Sessions, Ninja Tune, 2007)
- These guys rock. Get their stuff direct (and give them all the money) by clicking here.
- Juluka - Scatterlings of Africa (Scatterlings, Warner Brothers, 1983)
- I vowed I wouldn’t play any album twice until I play them all once; enjoy it while you can.
- Cat Stevens - Freezing Still (Catch A Bull At Four, A and M, 1972)
- 1972: He’s young, he’s talented, he has hair!
