The K-tel-A-Delic shows are among my favorites, probably because they remind me of growing up in my hometown, Elmira, NY, in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. I listened to Top 40 radio religiously; sometimes WELM but more often WENY. Wikipedia refers to some well-known alumni (some of whom I used to drink with) but, for me, the heyday of the station was when Gary Richards and Street Stryder spent the night playing these songs in rapid fire order, complete with wolf howls and classic jingles. Later, I started to dial in clear channels, my favorite from the late 70’s being CKLW out of Windsor, Ontario. At any rate, this is in my blood and it’s a lot of fun to produce these slices of pop music. Nothing unusual here but…
- Van McCoy - The Hustle (Avco 4653, 1975)
- Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday (Mercury 73281, 1972)
- Shocking Blue - Venus (Colossus 108, 1969)
- The Osmonds - Down By The Lazy River (MGM 14324, 1972)
- Lighthouse - Pretty Lady
- First Choice - Armed and Extremely Dangerous (Philly Groove 175, 1973)
- Love Unlimited Orchestra - Love’s Theme (20th Century 2069, 1973)
- Walter Murphy and The Big Apple Band - A Fifth of Beethoven (Private St. 45,073, 1976)
- Five Man Electrical Band - Signs (Lionel 3213, 1971)
- ABBA - Waterloo (Atlantic 3035, 1974)
- Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels - Devil With A Blue Dress On - Good Golly Miss Molly (New Voice 817, 1966)
- Friends of Distinction - Grazing In The Grass (RCA 0107, 1969)
- The Jaggerz - The Rapper (Kama Sutra 502, 1970)
- Gladys Knight and The Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia (Buddah 383, 1973)

What’s up, Music junkie?
I just discovered your site. I might add that I had the pleasure of working with Street Stryder and Greg Richards (briefly) at WENY back when I was a teenager breaking into radio in the late 80s. Not sure what happened to Street, but I know Greg Richards moved on WMGM in Atlantic City, NJ in the early 90s. (I actually had a college class with him as well at CCC).
Anyway, thanks for a great site and I look forward to exploring it.
Kev
I started listening to Street as a kid in the early 70’s, when he was doing the overnight show on WENY. My enthusiasm for music and radio were just starting to bloom and he was my idol.
Later, I listened to him do mornings at WELM and learned to do a pretty good imitation of him. He was the one who taught me how to run the board at WELM where I got my first weekend gig in ‘79. I worked there for a year before college with him, Katherine Brown, Pat Salois, John St. John, Ron Ferro, Lee Potter, et al.
Greg Richards was one of my best friends in the late 80’s and early 90’s. I met him when he came to WENY to do mornings. We did a lot of hanging out at Chuck Clark’s, amongst other places. He was actually the one who convinced Art Kendall to hire me for the morning job at WENY when he left for Jersey in ‘91. Last I knew, he ditched broadcasting, went back to school and became a paramedic. But, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in touch with him.
Stryder came back to WENY in ‘92-ish, as I recall; did the afternoon show on the FM side while Chris Faber did mornings. Chrissy and I hung out a lot, too, over the years. I was also pretty close to Ed Brace, one of my favorite cohorts of all time.
I saw Stryder at a restaurant in Elmira a few years ago (sans the waist-length hair). Last I heard, he was doing an online talk thing…but I can’t say what exactly it is.
