For Every Great Quote, Let There Be Bad Photoshop

“The songs on her nineteenth album are all covers, most about love gone wrong, from country’s classic age, when in its varied forms was handled by singers with stoicism and a stiff drink rather than Celine-Dion-in-a-stetson histrionics.

Old R.E.M. is comfortable for me, like old jeans and t-shirts, jasmine tea and Tom Robbins in the grass with a nice looking girl. Spring brings that out in me, as I mentioned in my recent post called The Great Pastry Debate.
I really loved Life’s Rich Pageant, thought Green was a good record and still like to play Crush With Eyeliner really loud. And contrary to what a lot of people thought, I found some of the songs on Around The Sun to be really beautiful.

Life’s Rich Pageant = one of my all time favorites
I’ve been an R.E.M. fan since, pretty much the beginning, at least the beginning of buying their first single when it came out.
It’s been a tough run the last few years, but I’ve stuck with them and find some beauty in each of their most recent records.
I Wanted to Be Wrong from Around the Sun, has to be one of their most beautiful songs ever.
Thanks for sharing.
All the best,
John.
Crush with Eyeliner is from the Monster album.
I think you’ll find Crush… is on Monster fella…
Yeah, LRP might still be my fave REM album (first time I saw them live, too). I’d note for you, however, that Crush With Eyeliner was on Monster, not AFTP.
My mom would describe Celine in that picture as looking like “she has her ass between her eyes”…somehow that expression always made me laugh and seemed to suit that picture…
