My oldest son, Austin, turned 11 today. I took him out of school early, bought him some sushi for lunch, we spent some time at the bookstore, watched together as his younger brother and sister played music in a talent show (which, as you might imagine from an elementary school, was a little short of actual talent). My first baby is going on teenager, has grown up a lot. We have conversations; he’s a bright, bright kid, with a winning smile.

So, as I’m working on my 1000 Things projects for CBS, he listens in and tell me he likes these songs.

The Byrds – Mr. Tambourine Man
Elton John – Rocket Man

  1. Sounds like a wonderful day. Happy B-day, Austin! ^_^

Psst. I secretly love “Rocket Man,” too!

  2. Rocket Man takes me back to the time I was about 11, maybe a little older. But I still have a scratchy 45 of that song which I managed to hang on to. Good choice.

  3. I performed in my 3rd grade talent show…and sang with more passion and furver than I have had the balls to do in a long time. Every note I sang was off key, but that passion…I would love to be fearless enough to chanel again. Go elementary talent shows!
