Fusion 45 Presents Paste Magazine’s Albums of the Decade #9

Like many bands that are rising to the top of the field in the early 21st century, the Cnocord, North Carolina-born Avett Brothers’ access to the worldwide media inform their music with influences as diverse as acoustic folk and thrashing electric punk. The San Francisco Chronicle say Scott and Seth Avett — along with bassist Bob Crawford — a band with the “heavy sadness of Townes Van Zandt, the light pop concision of Buddy Holly, the tuneful jangle of the Beatles, the raw energy of the Ramones.” In response, the brothers have said no labels “would do the music the justice. It’s simply left up to each person to extract his or her own account from the Avetts’ music.”

I And Love And You is the thirteenth album the brothers have released over the past 9 years and includes the beautiful title track, a AAA-radio staple.

Fusion 45 Presents Paste Magazine’s Albums of the Decade #10

M.I.A. (aka Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam) was a visual artist who began toying with a Roland 505 Drum Machine about 10 years ago. Having secured one of her own via former Elastica member, Justine Frischman, Arulpragasam began programming beats in her bedroom shortly thereafter. When Frischman’s manager who the demos, Arulpragasam was signed to XL Recordings under the name M.I.A.

Arular, named after her father, was the first of her two albums and has been nominated for or won numerous music awards over the past five years.

Fusion 45 Present Paste Magazine’s Albums of the Decade #11

The Hold Steady are a 5-piece alternative band from Brooklyn, fronted by singer/guitarist Craig “No Relation To Tim” Finn. David Dye from for NPR that “with its riff-heavy mixture of classic rock and Craig Finn’s lyrically dense storytelling, the group crafts intricately detailed musical universes that have already made it a critical darling and fan favorite.”

Boys And Girls In America was released in 2006, the third of the four albums the band has recorded for the Vagrant label.
