Cassette Classics No. 15 – Peppermint Dog

Some years ago, my wife and I started bathing our dogs with Dr. Bronner’s Magic Peppermint Soap. Being that they are big furry dogs with heavy undercoats, they needed a soap that would rinse out easily (and cut down on the country dog smell they seemed to enjoy so much).

Since that time, they’ve been known as the Peppermint Dog’s and have inspired the same name for my first record company. The label has yet to put out its first original release — perhaps 2027? — but a number of mixes have been “copyrighted” with the P-Dog name. One such mix is this one, dated 1996, and containing some of the same stuff heard on other mixes from this era (Joan Armatrading, Rory Block, The Cat Mary, Dana Cooper).

But it has some other stuff, too, like Lyle Lovett and Robert Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise.

Another nice one for posterity:

  • Joan Armatrading – Merchant of Love
  • Mandy Barnett – Maybe
  • Blues Traveler – Runaround
  • Rober Bradley’s Blackwater Surprise – Belly Bone
  • Lyle Lovett – That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas)
  • Jimmie Dale Gilmore – Black Snake Moan
  • Rory Block – The Last Leviathan
  • Dionne Farris – I Know
  • The Wolfgang Press – Goin’ South
  • Dog’s Eye View – Everything Falls Apart
  • Rory Block – Picture of You
  • Chris Smith – Room Inside My Heart
  • The Cat Mary – Sweet Knees and Backbones
  • Dana Cooper – My Gift To You
